Today is Brittany Maynard’s 30th birthday … had she lived. According to Wikipedia, she was diagnosed with grade 2 astrocytoma, a form of brain cancer, on January 1, 2014. At the time she underwent a partial craniotomy. The cancer returned in April 2014, and her diagnosis was then elevated to grade 4 astrocytoma, also known as glioblastoma, with a prognosis of six months to live. She and her family decided to move from California where she was born and lived her entire life to move to Oregon where she could take advantage of Oregon’s Death with Dignity Law.
Before October 8th, I had never of Brittany Maynard. But on that day, CNN ran a story about a 29 year old woman with a terminal illness who planned to end her life on her terms on November 1, 2014. As an astro-numerologist, I’m always intrigued about numbers and dates. Brittany was 29 years old at the time. 29 is when we go through our first Saturn return. 29 reduces to 11 which symbolizes double new beginnings.
November 1st also intrigued me. November is a 9 universal month. 9 symbolizes endings and the 1 symbolized new beginnings. For Brittany, the new beginnings would be in her next stage of evolution.
At the time, I was unable to find out any birth information on her so I wasn’t able to look at her natal chart. On November 2, I remembered her story and wondered if she had indeed ended her life as she planned. So I did a quick Google search. Not only did I find that she ended her life, she now was on Wikipedia. More fascinating details emerged, both numerologically and astrologically.
Born Brittany Lauren Maynard on November 19, 1984, giving her a 19/10/1 day of birth, a 34/7 Life Purpose and 94/13/4 Destiny. Brittany’s numbers show her as a trail blazer/pioneer and a compassionate humanitarian (bringing attention to death with dignity to all states), organized (planning out when she would die), introspective, analytical.
Notice her 19 day of birth is replicated in her day of death (1 day and 9 month).
On January 1st, when Brittany was initially diagnosed with brain cancer, transiting Saturn was exactly conjunct her natal Saturn at 20 degrees Scorpio (see below). January 1st was a 1 day and 9 Universal Month, again replicating her day of birth and death. January 1st was also a new moon at 11 degrees Capricorn conjunct Pluto. Due to retrogrades, Pluto was 11 degrees Capricorn on November 1st. Pluto is the natural ruler of Scorpio and the 8th House of Life, Death and Transformation. Brittany has 3 planets in Scorpio in her natal chart, one of them Pluto. 11 represents double new beginnings and walking through the gateway into the unknown. Notice that 29 (Brittany’s age) reduces to 11.
Saturn takes 29 years to make one orbit around the sun. His slow dance across the zodiac is owed to the fact that Saturn is one of the farther planets out in our solar system and, until Uranus’s discovery in the late 18th century, it was the last known planet. The ancients, well aware of Saturn’s path in the sky, came to associate him with endings, restrictions/limitations, karma, and Father Time.
Now not every one will be diagnosed with a terminal illness on their first Saturn return. There are other factors as well. Transiting Uranus in Aries, the planet of the unexpected, was conjunct her Ascendant at that time. The 1st, 6th, 8th and 12th Houses are the most important in regards to health.
This post was not to debate whether what Brittany did was right or wrong in ending her own life. I would hope that if I was facing a terminal illness, I would hope that I would be as brave as this young lady. Join me in wishing Brittany a happy birthday She lived according to her numbers.
